Base Work by Hallman Asphalt & Sealing

A house is only as strong as its foundation and paving is only as strong as the base work. Base work is the part you can’t afford to get wrong.

95% of problems with asphalt go back to the base work or to drainage. Your parking lot or driveway is only as good as what it’s sitting on. That’s why we take great pains to make sure the base work is done correctly whether we’re doing new installation or repair.

Our Four Step Base Work Process

Hallman Asphalt & Sealing uses this four-step base work process:

STEP ONE
LEVEL AND DRAINAGE

Base_work_1We set up transit level to set grade and ensure proper drainage. This includes hand digging all edges for an attractive end result. Drainage is critical. You don’t want water where it doesn’t belong. We will work with you to make sure water drains away from your base. When it comes to excavation, we’ll haul away all dirt unless you request otherwise.

STEP TWO
BUILDING THE BASE

Base_work_2We build an eight to ten inch base, depending on your needs. The first three to five inches is 3-inch breaker rock to build up a proper base.

STEP THREE
GRADING AND COMPACTING

Base_work_3Once we truck in and place base materials, we then grade the surface for the correct drainage. The base is then compacted with a vibrator for proper compaction.

STEP FOUR
LET IT SETTLE

Base_work_4This base must then set for two to six weeks before paving. (Compaction is very important.)
